"How can you defend yourself if you are not ready to fight and win?"
- Wong Shun Leung
Self-defense - be safe, but not naive
Ving Tsun is a modern style of Kung Fu specially developed for the self-defense of "average people".
The style is based on the classic Kung Fu styles and their centuries of experience. However, attempts were made to increase their practicality and user-friendliness.
For this purpose, no acrobatics or show elements were used and the technology was reduced to a sober function.
It was also assumed that the attacker would be physically superior and the techniques and strategies of Ving Tsun therefore focus on avoiding, deflecting and exploiting the opposing force.
Self-defense (SV) is a complex topic. It goes far beyond the purely physical of an argument and also includes sociological, psychological, legal and ethical aspects.
The good news is that you are already well equipped by nature: It's called "common sense"! A serious fighting style not only gives you effective techniques, but also helps you to a realistic assessment of your current skills. Your consciousness should be sharpened and not put to sleep by "propaganda"!
Especially modern SV styles, but also classic styles which try to orientate themselves today, convey a technical arsenal for all imaginable scenarios. Unfortunately, fighting training often falls by the wayside. This often conveys a false, sometimes dangerous, self-confidence - because, of course, agreed attacks that are drilled in a scenario can always be successfully defended against.
Basically, in Ving Tsun we see self-defense as a by-product of combat training. By keeping this training realistic and not "sporting" it, we create realistic fighting behavior that is ideal for self-defense.
